Custom Jewelry

A Personalized Journey Into Modern Wearable Art

Creating a custom piece of jewelry is an intimate, exciting experience — a chance to bring your personal story to life through color, design, and craftsmanship. A custom design allows you to create a one-of-a-kind heirloom that reflects your individuality and becomes part of your legacy.

Because Nick Alexander’s fantasy cut gemstones, gemstone carvings, and sculptural designs are so distinctive, the process may feel new at first — and that’s a good thing. We’re here to make every step simple, transparent, and inspiring.

Whether you’re starting with one of Nick’s original creations or a gemstone of your own, this guide will walk you through our complete custom jewelry experience.

If you’ve already chosen a gemstone from our online collection, please read through this guide and contact us before or shortly after purchasing so we can begin your project.

1) Initial Consultation — Discovering Your Vision

Your custom journey begins with a personal

 consultation with Nick Alexander.
This conversation allows us to understand your goals, style, and expectations so we can design a piece that feels uniquely yours.

Together, we’ll discuss:

  • Type of jewelry (ring, pendant, earrings, etc.)
  • Inspiration images, sketches, or themes you love
  • Your design preferences — subtle, bold, sculptural, minimalist, or statement
  • Budget range
  • Metal and accent stone options
  • How and where you plan to wear the piece

Consultation Fees

  • Complimentary when using a gemstone purchased from Fantasy Gems & Jewelry
  • $300 when bringing your own gemstone (includes concept sketches)

This is your opportunity to explore ideas, ask questions, and begin shaping the character of your future heirloom.

2) Sketch Designs & Estimates — Bringing Your Ideas to Life

After your consultation, Nick will create 3–5 original sketch designs based on your gemstone and artistic direction.

These drawings illustrate:

  • How the stone will be set
  • Structural flow and movement
  • Balance, proportions, and overall aesthetic

This stage reflects Nick’s signature approach to lapidary art and sculptural jewelry design.

Sketches typically take 1–2 weeks. Once complete, we’ll review the concepts with you so you can choose the direction that resonates most.

3) Secondary Consultation — Refining the Design

During this collaborative review, Nick will walk you through the artistic and technical reasoning behind each design:

  • How the gemstone interacts with the metalwork
  • The flow and movement of the piece
  • Considerations for wearability and durability
  • Options for refining or combining design elements

This is your chance to refine the artwork before it transitions into a 3D model.

4) CAD Design — Transforming the Concept Into Reality

Once the final concept is approved, we begin the CAD (Computer-Aided Design) phase.
This digital model translates the hand-drawn sketch into an exact, three-dimensional blueprint of your piece.

CAD renderings allow you to view:

  • Your gemstone in its final setting
  • Proportions and fine structural details
  • Metal and accent stone variations
  • Life-like preview images of your future jewelry

During this stage, we also source any accent stones or specialty materials.
Timeline: 2–8 weeks, depending on complexity.

5) Final Consultation — Approving the Finished Design

We’ll review the CAD renderings together to ensure every element matches your vision — from the curvature of the metal to the alignment of accent stones.

Any last adjustments must be made at this stage, as the design becomes final once production begins.

6) Production — Crafting Your Heirloom

With your approval, your custom piece moves into production.

This phase involves:

  • Wax model printing or hand-carving
  • Casting in your chosen metal
  • Gemstone setting
  • Final polishing and detailing

Production timelines vary depending on the intricacy of the design and can range from 1 week to several months.

We provide periodic email updates and notify you once your piece nears completion.

7) Final Reveal — Unveiling Your Custom Jewelry

Upon completion, your jewelry is carefully packaged and shipped with:

  • Professional authentication
  • Documentation for insurance
  • Care instructions for long-term preservation

We follow up within a few days to ensure your piece arrived safely and exceeds your expectations.
