How Gemstone Roundtables Work
A Unique, Hands-On Gemstone Experience
A gemstone roundtable is an intimate, interactive event designed to let guests experience gemstones in a relaxed, inspiring, and personal way. Hosted by fine jewelry stores, boutiques, and galleries, these private gatherings invite a select group of clients to explore a curated assortment of gemstones while enjoying wine, hors d’oeuvres, and conversation.
Roundtables are social, immersive, and full of discovery — making them one of the most enjoyable ways to connect with gemstones and begin the journey toward a custom jewelry piece.
What to Expect at a Gemstone Roundtable
Most roundtables welcome 7–15 guests, all seated around a long table. The environment is warm and elegant, with soft music, comfortable seating, and beautifully arranged gemstones waiting to be explored.
Throughout the event, hand-cut gemstones are passed around the table, allowing each guest to hold them, study the patterns and colors, and see how they capture light up close.
No screens, no display cases — just the rare experience of interacting with gemstones directly in your hands.
How Bidding Works
When a guest finds a gemstone they’re interested in, they simply place a bid on it. The salesperson records their selection, and the stone continues to move around the table so others can enjoy it.
Multiple guests can bid on the same stone.
This adds to the excitement and makes the experience more engaging.
Once the stone completes its rotation and returns to the first person who bid on it, that guest has the initial opportunity to decide if they want to claim it. If they choose not to, the stone is offered to the next bidder, and so on.
Guests may bid on several stones throughout the event and then narrow down their choices later.
Selecting Your Gemstone
After the table rotation ends, guests revisit the gemstones they bid on and choose the piece or pieces they’d like to take home.
There’s no pressure — just the joy of selecting a gemstone that speaks to you.
Each chosen gemstone then becomes the starting point for a custom jewelry design. Some guests already know what they want; others discuss general ideas and schedule a more in-depth design consultation afterward.
Designing Your Jewelry
At the close of the event, the store and the client begin an initial design conversation. This often includes:
- your preferred styles
- metal and accent stone choices
- how you plan to wear the piece
- general design direction
A more detailed design meeting is scheduled later, giving you time to explore options and collaborate on a piece that feels personal and meaningful.
If the store prefers not to handle design or manufacturing in-house, Fantasy Gems and Jewelry also offers full jewelry design and production services to support them.
